There are many types of beads which are made in Venice and Murani individually by hand and given the brand as Venetian beads. Venetian beads are also known as Murano beads. Such beads are associated with a very high level of craftsmanship.

The Manufacturing Process of Venetian Glass Beads
Originated in Venice, they are rare beads and always prized by collectors. These beads were originally used as trading currency in Europe and Africa in 1400's. It was there that the glass artisans tried to fabricated the beads by the method of using a mandrel. The core of the bead was formed by wrapping heated glass around a a slim metal rod. When cooled, the slight contraction of the glass allowed the center to open just enough for the bead to slide off the inner rod.

Similary to create floral beads, artist formed a series of glass rods, The rods comprised of a center and were covered with thinner rods around the circumference. Once formed, the composite rods are heated. These are then stretched till the smallest possible diameter is reached. At the end, the output that is formed resembles a flower. After cooling, the rods are sliced thinly. The slices are then melded to a glass bead to create intricate floral designs, which are given vivid colors.

Venetian Glass BeadsSIn the 1620's, the Italian glass industry was officially moved to Murano. Since then Murano and Venetial Glass beads have take a strong hold in the glass industry. Infact, these beautiful beads are interchangeable as Murano and Venetian glass. Fused glass is also used to describe this type of bead because of the method used to apply the colored glass to the core of the glass.
